“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin || Book #2 of 2026

*Spoiler Free Review*

Wow wow wow! What a start to the new year. Book #2 of 2026 and we’ve already got our first great one! Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is a beautifully told tale of love, collaboration and an undeniable calling to create.

The term ‘page-turner’ gets thrown around far too much for my taste, but this fits the definition perfectly. I was actually dragging my feet a bit to start this new reading year and found that I couldn’t put this one down. At its core a love letter to video games, I was drawn in by the premise but absolutely hooked by the interpersonal relationships throughout the story.

All of our characters feel three dimensional and grounded, to the point where their struggles and victories feel like your own. As they go through the ups and downs of their lives, you feel the impact of each moment as if it’s happening to you or someone you love and care for. I’d imagine most novelist strive for this level of emotional affect but very few actually achieve it. Bravo Gabrielle Zevin.

This book went as far as making me cry at one point. With this being a spoiler-free review, I won’t say when exactly, but I’d imagine readers would have a pretty good idea what section I’m referring to. Although I’m often against forcing sequels out of perfectly good, stand-alone novels, this is a rare case where I’m begging for one.

I need more! I’m not ready to say goodbye to this world and I’m dying to know what happens after the final page. As I mentioned in my 11/22/63 review, I’m pretty stingy with the five star ratings, but this one is a no-doubter. Read this book!

And now, I will spend the rest of this review shouting out some video games that were mentioned in this book and that I happen to agree are fantastic to play.

Super Mario Bros.

The first video game I can ever remember playing. My neighbor across the street got a Super Nintendo and were nice enough to give up their NES to a little boy in need. Shout out to Mario, Luigi and the gang and screw you Bowser! Get your hands off the princess!

Final Fantasy

Beautiful. That’s the first word that comes to mind with Final Fantasy. Beautiful storytelling, beautiful visuals, beautiful score. I’m currently about halfway through my latest replay of Final Fantasy X and plan on booting up the G.O.A.T., Final Fantasy VII, after I’m finished.

Diablo

Man, I love Diablo so so much. Diablo 2 was my first experience with the franchise back on our first family computer and I’m still hooked to this day. The newer games are amazing in their own right but there’s something brilliantly addictive about the simplicity of D2 that holds a special place in my heart.

Grand Theft Auto

My first experience with a truly open world. As systems have gotten more complex, the games have become incredibly massive, but they still maintain that GTA feel. Whether you’re going down memory lane with the old games or impatiently waiting for GTA 6, it’s easily one of the best games ever made.

Bioshock

One of those experiences that feels more like watching a movie than playing a video game. Which isn’t to say the gameplay isn’t incredibly fun as well! The Bioshock series has stuck with me more than any other first-person shooter ever has.
